My father has Thyroid cancer that has spread to his lungs.  He had many lymph nodes removed and was then told it had spread.  He's been taking chemo regularly for quite some time now and was told awhile back that he has a year and a half to live.  He was recently told that his 7 lesions are still there; 5 have shrunk significantly but 2 have increased in size, one close to his heart.  His doctor is not wanting to push for another type of chemo that may work because the insurance company is reluctant to cover it.  Any ideas?  We are considering CyberKnife if we can get it covered but we will probably have to educate the doctor(s) on the idea because they were unaware of it.  Prayers would also be much appreciated!           -Travis-    MrTravisColeman@yahoo.com

It can be done, but thyroid cancer typically has multiple tumors, often many small ones. Has he had radioactive iodine, or is his tumor not sensitive to that? The chemo might be a better option.

One could use CK to treat the larger lesions if chemotherapy is not anticipated.

Thank you for your replies.  My father has went through radioactive iodine as well as chemo and has 7 tumors, 5 of which have reduced in size, 2 of which have increased in size.  I'm not exactly sure about some of the terms.  I've heard my dad use both terms; tumor & lesion, but I'm really not sure of the difference.

Then as Dr. Spunberg has mentioned CK could be used for the larger tumors, and possibly treat others as they become a problem.
