Hello,

I'm from Romania, Europe and my 57 year old mother has just discovered a 1.73/1.53 inch tumoral formation at the level of the uncinate process at her MRI examination performed on June 11 2009.

The MRI conclusions read:

Abdomen and pelvis MRI with contrast substance IV – 11.06.2009, Constanta, Romania:

"Liver- no T1, T2 signal modifications, no pathological grips of gadolinium

Gallbladder – homogenous content in T2 hyper signal, supple walls

No dilatations of CBIH, CBEH

The pancreas shows a space-replacing formation with diameters of 4.4/3,9 cm (1.73/1.53 inch), with a multicystic structure and peripheral gadophilly, developed at the level of the uncinate process. The described formation shows intimate connections with the inferior vena cava (which it compresses), the right renal artery and the superior mesenteric artery. The body of the pancreas does not show indications of chronic pancreatitis. (probably cyst adenocarcinom)

Spleen – 7 cm in diameter

Suprarenal glands with normal morphology

Right liver and left liver with present secretion

Bladder semi-full, supple walls

Uterus and ovaries – normal aspect in accordance with age

No retroperitoneal adenopathies

No liquid in the peritoneal cavity"

Considering the available data about the tumor, could you possibly tell if my mother is a candidate for CK? If yes, what would the benefits and drawbacks be?

The English translation of the MRI results belongs to me so I apolagise in advance for any misuse/incorrect translation of the medical terms.

Thank you very much!

Mariana

She is likely a god candidate for CyberKnife treatment. It probably provides the best local control available other than surgery. I doubt she is a surgical candidate but that should be determined. CK has high control rates and usually very low chances of serious injury.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I have already found a clinic which offers CK in Istanbul, Turkey. I have contacted them in order to forward them my mother's medical history and all clinical information.

I will be sure to come back with more info after my first visit there!

Again, thank you for your kind reply!

Mariana
