Rectal cancer in the pelvis

My brother in law was diagnosed with rectal cancer in early 2005 and underwent APR surgery in June of the same year.  The following year, his cancer metastatized to his left lung and he had surgery to remove it.  Since then he was on chemotherapy and in early 2009 he started using Vectibix but stopped recently as his tumour in his pelvis continued to grow despite treatment.  It is in the right side of the pelvis, centred in the obturator muscle.   He was told that surgery would  be very risky.   I heard about Cyber Knife and wondered if he would be a candidate for this treatment?  Any info would be helpful.

He would probably be a candidate. He should get his scans to the CK center of his choice for them to review.

Thank you for your quick reply.  What scans are required?

Any that have been done, but usually the CT and PET scans.

I forgot to mention previously that my brother in law had radiation prior to his first surgery would he still be suitable for CK?

Most likely yes but the records need to be reviewed to be sure.

My brother in law has been told that he cannot get radiation anymore since he has reached his maximum.  Could he still be a candidate for CK?

Probably, but we would need a lot more information. Get the scans and records to teh nearest CK center for review.
